The new Commission

Latvian Mr Andris Piebalgs was appointed to the commission for the Directorate General for Development (DGDEV). Bulgarian Romian Juleva withdraw her seat as commissioner for humanitarian and development aspects of cooperation (or DG ECHO Humanitarian aid) after fierce critisism. Mrs Kristalina Georgieva, former vice president of the World bank, is new candidate for bulgaria on the same post. Because of the withdrawal the final voting in the parliment will not be held until the 9th of February.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has, among other things, added a new Commissioner for Climate Action. The new Commission must now be approved by Parliament before it can begin its work covering the period until new elections 2014th. Commissioners was heard individually in Parliament between 11-19 January and it plans to vote on the Commission entirety on February 9th 2010.
The Commission subsequently appointed by the Council of Europe and can start work.
